Podcast Guest Renee Iannacchione shares her take on a famous Pittsburgh sandwich

Ingredients

  • Fresh Italian Bread from Deli, Sliced

  • Any Itailian Meats which usually include: Calabrese, Salami, Capicola, Prosciutto, Soppressata

  • Mozzarella Cheese, Sliced

  • Provolone Cheese, Sliced

  • Tomato, Sliced

  • Bag of Angel Hair Coleslaw, Dry

  • White Vinegar to taste

  • Sugar, to taste

  • Salt, to taste

  • Pepper, to taste

  • French Fries, Bagged or Homemade

  • Italian Dressing, if preferred

Preparation

Step 1:

Slice Italian Bread if not already done so.

Step 2:

Place angel hair coleslaw bag in large mixing bowl, mix in vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper to taste. The amount of each will be dependent on how much coleslaw you are preparing. Use a fork to stir mixture and let sit at room temperature.

Step 3:

Cook Fries with the exception of maybe 10-15 minutes remaining.

Step 4:

Using a pan, pan fry the meats you have selected until heated and browned to liking.

Step 5:

Using a separate pan, grill the cheeses and stir as often as possible, to keep the cheese soft and melted, to easily lay onto sandwiches.

Step 6:

Once fries are done, let cool for a few minutes

Step 7:

Prep your sandwiches by taking the bread, placing the meat next, layered with the melted cheese on top, a handful of fries, the coleslaw mixture, followed by the tomato. Ketchup and Italian Dressing on Side, to dip.
